Hepatitis and American Indians/Alaska Natives

Historically, the highest rates for Hepatitis A occurred among American Indian/Alaska Natives. However, rates which were over 60 cases per 100,000 before 1995 have decreased dramatically.

  • In 2017, American Indians/Alaska Natives were twice as likely to die from viral hepatitis, as compared to non-Hispanic whites.
  • In 2018, American Indians/Alaska Natives were 2.7 times more likely to die from hepatitis C than non-Hispanic whites.
